Textiles

Exhibition: 13-24 May at Konstfack

About Textiles

In this year’s Degree Exhibition, the textiles students are presenting degree projects that move between the innermost and the collective. Works that revolve around vulnerability, loss and grief, but also empowerment, care, presence, cooperation and community.

Popular culture takes shape through traditional craft. Digital impressions become material. We approach remote areas and nature as power, terms and mirror. How do we live in it, and against it? The degree projects also contain attempts to understand ourselves and our feelings, to get closer to life’s great moments: becoming, change. The personal never becomes solely private but instead opens towards something shared.

In a time marked by speed, reproduction and digital oversaturation, textiles insist on something else: experience, body, tradition and resistance.

From fibre to finished work, the materials bear traces of time, the knowledge of hands, and the stubborn intelligence that exists in the doing. Textiles become both language and action.

The students’ degree projects do not offer any clear-cut answers. Instead, they open space for feeling, thinking and lingering. Here is a faith in textiles as a way to understand the world, and perhaps also something about what it means to be a person in it.
