‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ – Oscar Wilde
Within interior architecture, we constantly imitate, historical structures, periods, materials, nature, and each other. The tiled stove cabinet imitates the tiled stove. Plastic flooring imitates wooden parquet. Decorative painting imitates marble.
In my degree project, I explore historical imitation techniques and use them as a design method to create new spatial expressions. I aim to challenge our perception of authenticity, value, and the reputation of imitation.
Can imitation be more than a copy?
