Alice Bengtsson

My degree project explores the interpretation and design of a culturally significant site that is currently being demolished and will be given a new function. I have based my work on the Park cinema, which was built in 1941 and functioned as a cinema until 2017.

The starting point of the project is to highlight and celebrate the functionalist interior and the cultural-historical value that the site embodied. I aim to preserve and carry forward the qualities that the cinema provided, both socially and decoratively.

As part of the process, I conducted an inventory of the interior. Based on this, I developed a proposal in which selected elements are extracted and relocated to the park opposite. In doing so, the project opens up the possibility for a new use in the form of a park theatre.

The project consists of a series of design explorations in the form of installations, models and drawings, with the aim of making visible and reinterpreting the historical layers of the site within a new context.
