The role of the subject of visual arts in the schools is a much-discussed issue – one that stretches back to the beginnings of the subject in the school system. The issue has been governed by both conditions in the school and demand in society, and traces of different curricula through history can be detected in the current curriculum.

How we are supposed to achieve these goals is not specified.

Society today doesn’t look like it ever has before, as the visual material we are surrounded by has increased significantly through different media. How do images affect us and our way of thinking? Do we learn to reproduce the images we see or are they a prerequisite for learning?

My work is about how primary school students are influenced by receiving, or not receiving, a reference image in a given assignment. What fosters creativity and desire and what happens in the classroom?

One conclusion I have been able to draw is that everything influences the outcome; if not by words, images or teachers, the pupils are influenced by one another.
