This degree project explores the concept of ‘in-betweenness’ and what it means to grow up between different cultural identities.

During the summer of 2025, I travelled to Iran to study the Persian culture I was raised with, before returning to Sweden to contrast it with the country I grew up in.

After four days in the capital city Tehran, Israel began attacks on Iran and the situation quickly escalated into what later came to be known as the 12-Day War.

As a result, the project took an unexpected turn. Questions of displacement, cultural heritage, and the current global political climate suddenly became central to the study.

These events brought me closer to the core of why ‘in-betweenness’ exists; the experience of being forced to leave one’s home, culture, or identity in order to adapt to a new one. The project examines how this shift affects emotions, behaviour, and life choices.
