‘Imagine pinkish skies slowly turning into tangerine, purple, then ultramarine blue’.
‘Below there is an endless plane covered by scorching sands.
See? Its golden waves are shifting with the movement of the wind.
Do you hear a thud? That’s a giant leg trampling all over them. The giant has a wise wrinkled body riddled with barnacles and clams. Its back is so huge that it carries an entire city filled with towers, gardens, fountains and tiny people going about their lives. Once they look upon the distant skies, they see another creature and then cry:
“Land on the horizon!”’
“Burning Sands” is a graphic novel exploring the themes of home, belonging and migration. Its story is set in a fantastical world, covered by lethal sands, and inhabited by giant creatures with cities on their backs. People both welcome and fear their collision, as it brings opportunities for trade and migration, but also the possibility of a terrible disaster…
