“The Bog” is a pictorial story that takes shape in a book and an installation. The different components emerge in parallel. I whittle and embroider. I write and draw. There is a decoratively painted cabinet. There is someone in a beret. There are the birch forest and the river. There are the magpies. There are more and more all the time.
The book, which moves between serious novel and picture book for adults, is about anxiety and restlessness, about creativity and possession, about the magical, about nature relentlessly finding its way in. About a longing. Small wood shavings that grow in number. About a place deep in the forest.
The story moves, twists and grows. It wants to exist.
‘Do you hear the curlew, how it sings
it says: you are here’
“The Bog” is part of a larger, ongoing project exploring heritage, identity, language, belonging, Norrbotten, folk art, craft and magical realism.
