Permanent Alarm: Art as a Catalyst for Civic Awareness

Crisis narrative.
Overstimulation. Numbness.
Awareness. Nonchalance.
Meaninglessness.
Can material-based objects draw attention to the normative passivity that many of us have come to inhabit? What happens to us when the alarms no longer move us, when the meme cannot be passed on, and the nihilist on your shoulder urges you to hide under the covers instead of taking a stand?
I explore how such objects might interrupt that passivity. Not as a call for attention but as a quiet disturbance. Through wood and textile, the possibility of creating friction in the flow of everyday life is tested. The work of the hand is central. Slow craft-based processes bind time, body and attention.
