Through four scenarios, this project explores how fixed interior can support changing needs, enabling the home to evolve with its occupants. Working with the existing structure, it shifts focus from adding space to using it better, revealing the potential of a more compact way of living.

The 1,5 room 41 sq.m. apartment is a recurring housing type in Hammarbyhöjden, Björkhagen, and similar Stockholm neighborhoods built in the 1930-40s. Originally occupied by larger households, these homes now mostly house singles or younger couples.

Over time, lifestyles have changed, many apartments have been renovated, original interiors torn out, and dining rooms have become bedrooms. Through home visits, surveys and spatial documentation, the project examines how residents use these apartments today. What life changes and challenges push people to move?

Grounded in research into past and present ways of living within this housing typology, the project investigates the relationship between a historic apartment type and contemporary lifestyles.
