‘Water follows solute’ is the key principle of osmosis. Salt keeps water moving from cell to cell. It also keeps our thoughts, memories and muscles moving, by being a conduit for the electrical signals that travel throughout our nervous system. It is a substance of communication.
I am interested in fluid regulation, shifts in pressure, and how substance is, or is not, pushed through semipermeable membranes. The word tonic originates from the Greek word ‘tonos’, which translates to stretching or tightening. When talked about in a musical context, tonic refers to the first and last note of a piece, its anchor, home or resting place.
