“From What Remains” is a reinterpretation of vernacular design through an open-source framework for furniture making that utilises local waste materials often destined for incineration or landfill. This degree project investigates how their visual and functional value can be elevated while also prolonging the lifespan of the materials.
Unique fastening techniques and recycled aluminium details serve as the foundation for these adaptable furniture pieces. The framework provides construction plans and guidance on locating resources, fostering a collective responsibility for what already exists. By merging craft with accessible production, the project offers a sustainable alternative to mass-produced furniture.
