Folded August 15‘I build a museum for her without walls’.
“The Drawn Museum” explores how colonial history and authoritarian power become embodied in everyday objects. I create a collection of objects that carry layered and entangled influences. I refer to these as hybridity objects: “Folded August 15, Momotaro’s Hacienda” and “The National Language Family”. They carry traces of histories and systems that continue to shape Taiwanese identity.
Through a long process of making, I return to specific historical moments. In doing so, I begin to position myself in relation to my grandmother’s generation, entering a dialogue across time.
This degree project does not seek to provide a comprehensive history of Taiwan. Instead, it is a space where history remains lived, held and continually reactivated through objects. These objects mark my own position within history, a position that remains unfinished, uncertain, and still in the process of becoming.
