Isle of Stones

I have gathered natural stone from a spot in Gryt, a place whose name is an old word meaning ‘Isle of Stones’. I grew up nearby. When I was little I used to look for stones along the water’s edge; now I do it again. Back then there was no end, now I cannot remember how it began. The cliffs here were shaped by the Ice Age and bear traces of human settlement. Here, the ancient and the modern meet. The mysterious and the everyday.
In a representation of the place, I see the familiar with new eyes. I work with traditional silversmithing techniques, and explore materials, place and memories through the act of making. What is a memory of a place? The material carries its memories, and I carry mine.
