Most everyday objects today require complex assembly and long global supply chains. In my degree project, I explore monolithic 3D printing technology by creating a functional desk lamp in a single piece. By eliminating assembly steps and traditional tooling, I create a more direct and sustainable production path.

Today, the market is flooded with 3D-printed lamps featuring a simple, revolving ‘vase aesthetic’ that often feels cheap. I want to challenge this by exploring shapes rarely seen on the market, geometries that are either impossible to create with traditional methods or simply inefficient to produce in any other way. Instead of hiding the manufacturing method, I use it to push the boundaries of what is aesthetically possible with a 3D printer.

To minimise post-processing, the design is optimised to be printed entirely without support material. My ambition was to create a product that is as finished as possible the moment it leaves the print bed. By combining technical precision with a functional task light, I demonstrate how 3D printing can deliver exclusive and high-quality design objects.
