Steel Beam Curious

“Steel Beam Curious” is based on a fundamental element from the construction industry, the steel beam. It is made to carry load, yet is almost never seen.
My degree project explores the possible shift from structural support to form.
The material, sourced from recycling centres or as cut-offs from beam distributors, consists of high-quality steel without any defined use anymore. In most cases, they go directly to being remelted, despite already being finished components.
Here the material is used as it is. The dimensions are given and they determine what can be made. The result is outdoor furniture where the structure and the form are the same. The beam shifts from carrying buildings to carrying form.
