Everything we perceive visually is the result of the interaction between light and material.
Our lives are shaped by the rhythms of light. The world that unfolds around us is determined by the way illumination engages with the elements that surround it.
“Luce Materia” is a degree project that places material at the centre of the design process. Through the research of material qualities and artisanal manufacturing techniques, the aesthetic emerges. Simple shapes emphasise the interaction between light and the textures of materials, making them the true focal point of the project.
The aim is not merely to create lamps, but rather objects that function as statement pieces within an interior space, elements with a strong identity and a clearly defined aesthetic.
The visual language draws inspiration from the materials of the Brutalist tradition, both as a historical movement, particularly in its use of concrete, and as an aesthetic approach, in the adoption of manufacturing techniques used here for decorative purposes, such as aluminium sand casting and yakisugi.
This project has been developed in collaboration with the design studio case studios based in Cologne, Germany.
