Hedda Söderlund (b. 1999, Stockholm) is an artist whose practice is based on the conceptual, where investigation is central and shapes the performative and visual components of a project.
Söderlund is interested in human conditions and the interplay between people and society. She seeks perspectives to understand social structures and norms, and experiments with psychology and biology to expose the connections between the quiet routines of everyday life and the global narratives that sustain society.
She often works with fiction and time shifts between past, present and future. In the exhibition “Living Memories”, she creates a fictional future with fabricated testimonies. The work examines how we are prevented from acting for a better world, and how myths and fiction can set free the human capacity to believe in change. Söderlund is interested in how art can function as a ‘counter-fiction’ to expand the imagination and liberate us from that which harms us as humans.
