FLÓKI // BETWEEN HANDS
Fanny Stengårds & Elvira Staaf

There is a certain comfort in wool, a sense of care. It carries the scent of straw, barn, warmth and body. The rich lanolin settles like a protective layer over the hands, nurturing. Prickly and itchy are unfair prejudices; all wool has its place. The wool that was once an extension of a body, the sheep’s protective shell, remains strangely alive despite having been separated for so long – the animal lingers.

In our degree project “Flóki//Between Hands” we explore how collective working methods can be applied within an artistic process. We leave the “I” and enter the “we”, the duo, the collective. Through the ancient craft of wet felting, we examine the relationship between our own bodies and the inherent character and properties of the wool. We have wet-felted a large rug, a manifestation of the communal and the collective, the beauty and the friction of working as one.
