Anton Ströbeck

I grew up in the countryside of Skåne. The city where I’m from, Klippan, was one of the first to bring punk to Sweden with the infamous band Kriminella Gitarrer. My interest in cars began from riding motocross and from my peers driving their EPAS to school. I bought my first car in 2020, a Mercedes 190e. It sounds stupid, but the influence it has had on my aesthetic language is vast.

Being physically and culturally distanced from Klippan, I’ve been curious to explore its culture’s specific signals and objects of desire. By combining them with abstract and deteriorated imagery I want my work to reflect ambivalence – simultaneous distancing and attraction towards these pillars of my upbringing.
