Drinking water has long been taken for granted in Sweden, but today we are seeing many changes suggesting that it won’t continue to be so. This project investigates how people can ensure access to clean water in their daily lives. By working with porous ceramics, I investigate how containers can be shaped to both clean and store water. The porosity of the clay filters away bacteria from the water – a slow filtration in which gravity and the material cooperate. The work aims to create objects that don’t only function on a practical basis, but also deepen awareness of water as a resource and a prerequisite for life, and create new rituals surrounding water in our daily lives.
