Within the complexity of lived experience, lesbian relationships, complex emotions, the female body, queerness and society, I try to say something about the present.
It’s about allowing yourself to experience and express the parts of being human that society has told women to suppress.
Through the uncontrollable body, I seek to expand our understanding of gender and to offer women, female-identifying, queer or non-binary people the feeling that their bodies are powerful and limitless.
In my paintings, I use different painting languages that meet and create tension. I’m interested in what happens when boundaries between the figurative and abstract dissolve, what is created when two genres meet or a boundary is transgressed and what emerges in the act of crossing boundaries is what develops in the space between. Paintings that are neither fully figurative nor fully abstract exist in a simultaneous state. They inhabit this borderland, assert it and remain there.
