This degree project explores how contemporary living patterns intersect with spatial design in small apartments. It questions the dominance of open-plan layouts, arguing that while they aim to maximise space and light, they often result in visual clutter and a flattened spatial experience, lacking depth and psychological comfort.<\/p>\n
Drawing on theories such as Jay Appleton\u2019s \u2018prospect and refuge\u2019 and Adolf Loos\u2019 notions of intimacy, the proposal reintroduces spatial gradients and subtle divisions to enhance perception, privacy, and task separation.<\/p>\n
Through a redesign of a 25 square metre apartment, nooks and ritual-supporting elements are integrated to assist everyday habits and \u2018romanticise\u2019 domestic life.
