Every year, large amounts of the fast-growing plant are cut down and discarded with its cellulose‑rich stems treated as waste. Yet giant hogweed remains resilient. How might we change the narrative of this alien species?

“Pretty Toxic” transforms hogweed stems from waste into contemporary tiling. It introduces a collection of geometric modules made from moulded pulp and wool that naturally absorb sound, moisture and air pollutants. Arranged together, the tiles form monohedral patterns that increase their spatial impact and mimic the plant’s spreading nature.

Why design with a toxic invasive species?
