The works do not soften what surrounds them. War, demolition, ecological strain, and systems of excess remain present. Still, rather than retreating into despair, the students take an active position, attentive to what is at risk and committed to working through it. They remind us that attention itself can be a form of resistance.

Throughout the exhibition, there is a collective refusal to accept destruction as inevitable, to treat buildings as disposable, or to overlook the histories within materials and spaces. Architectural fragments and salvaged elements are treated not as nostalgia, but as proposals for the future. Demolished structures are reworked and reimagined, ensuring that loss informs new directions.

This refusal also addresses systems of consumption. Food, waste, and material excess are not only revealed but actively challenged. Reuse and regeneration practices go beyond critique, seeking alternatives and exploring new ways to assign value, circulate materials, and change daily habits. These seemingly small interventions accumulate into significant shifts, bringing what is often overlooked to the center of attention.

In spaces of care, a different commitment emerges. Projects addressing dementia, loss, shared living, and social interaction aim to reshape the conditions that create vulnerability, rather than merely describing them. These works recognize neurodiversity as part of lived reality, defending each person’s right to begin from where they stand. They propose environments that sustain dignity and relationships without reducing complexity to simple solutions.

Material engagement remains crucial. In a time defined by speed and digital abstraction, many students focus on the hand, on processing, and on resistance within making. Knowledge is formed through contact, testing limits, and allowing material to respond. It is a way of staying present.
The Degree Exhibition does not promise resolution or claim to solve all challenges. Instead, it presents a collective stance: to stay involved, to question, to propose, and to refuse indifference. Through that commitment, another horizon becomes possible.

Abir Boukhari and Ulrika Flink
Curators of Konstfack’s Degree Exhibition 2026

Photo: Muhammad Ali (Abir Boukhari) and Josefin Cowie (Ulrika Flink)

Against Indifference At Konstfack, a new generation emerges from a world under pressure, carrying both awareness and insistence.
