{"id":35,"count":14,"description":"Simply described, it\u2019s about the following:

\r\nWrite a text describing how an Master\u00b4s class works with art during their last year at Konstfack. Let the text describe how works have developed, stories they were based on, and how the process then advanced from idea to completed work. Also include how it was received, the conversations and discussions that surrounded the work, and how the student chose to present it. How the student used titles, text or other materials to situate their work in a context that fits the work and that places it in a nexus.

\r\n\r\nThen let the text contain the words: spatial design, installation, sculpture, readymade, painting, sound, light, darkness, moving images, film, video, animation, text and performance. Add: canvas, stretchers, oils, tiles, sealant, particle board, glass, girders, wallpaper, electrical cords, Styrofoam, plastic, plaster, rubbish, sheeting, sound absorbers, speakers and spotlights.

\r\n\r\nOr maybe: Timberland boots, Marie biscuits, confetti, nightclubs, margarine containers, wooden knives, toilets, barricades, Adidas jackets, distorted windows, binary code, new age, salt licks, sinus tones, monuments, toys, eyes, boots, door guards, dogs, tuna fish tins and a dead badger.

\r\nOr perhaps even better: identity, heritage, body, politics, history, memory, abstractions or the divine.

\r\n\r\nWe then begin to approach something that maybe can describe a graduating class at Konstfack 2026 at the Master\u2019s Programme in Fine Art.

\r\nBut it is perhaps only when we begin to approach what cannot be as easily described, in disciplines, strategies or materials, that we arrive at what the creation of art is actually about. A work or an artistic statement can never only be the result of its cumulative components and how they are arranged in relation to each other.

\r\n\r\nIt is only when they begin to oxidise with their surroundings and with other people that meaning arises and the materials and approaches outlined above come to life. It is also then that the artwork leaves its secure place and becomes an object that is open for negotiation.

\r\nThe institutional concept of art rests on three legs: one or more people who call themselves creators\/artists, some form of object or another artistic statement that they can claim as their artwork and, finally, some form of \u2018institution\u2019 that can confirm all of this. If any of these three components are missing, it becomes more difficult (although perhaps not impossible) to maintain any sort of validity in the concept. It can still work \u2013 the concept of art is by nature illusive and difficult to define.

\r\n\r\nBut it is when we think about the last of the three legs that we also think about what a degree exhibition for a graduating class is and what it means. It is there and then that their degree projects come to life and meets an audience. It is there the works leave one institution and enter another. It is there they move from one place to another.

\r\nThomas Elovsson
\r\nProfessor of Fine Art","link":"https:\/\/konstfack2026.se\/en\/category\/master-en\/ma-fa\/","name":"Fine Art","slug":"ma-fa","taxonomy":"category","parent":30,"meta":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/konstfack2026.se\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories\/35","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/konstfack2026.se\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/konstfack2026.se\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/taxonomies\/category"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/konstfack2026.se\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories\/30"}],"wp:post_type":[{"href":"https:\/\/konstfack2026.se\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts?categories=35"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
